Atwima Royals appeal to Asantehene to reinstate their disposed chief
Some Royals and residents of the Atwima Traditional area in the Ashanti region have appealed to the Asantehene, Otumfour Osei Tutu II, to reinstate their disposed chief, Nana Antwi Agyei Brempong II.
According to them, Nana Antwi Agyei Brempong II has for the last decade been the sole source of funding in all developmental projects in the area.
Three persons have been confirmed dead after announcing the destoolment of Atwimahene. Speaking to OTEC news Isaac Nsiah Foster, some natives of Atwima traditional area confirmed three persons-Tony miner at Tarkwa, Maame Gyamfua and Antie Maggie have all been pronounced dead after collapsing when they heard the announcement of the destoolment of Atwimahene Nana Antwi Agyei Brempong II by Otumfuo Osei Tutu II.
Otumfuo said some chiefs who are closed to him wanted to use his name to suppress others through dubious means without his consent.
They emphasized that throughout his reign as the overlord of the Atwima traditional area, Nana Antwi Agyei has brought peace and harmony to the people of Atwim.
The Asantehene Otumfuo Osei Tutu II on Monday 16, April 2018 destooled the Atwimahene, Nana Antwi Agyei Brempong II, at a traditional meeting at the Manhyia Palace in Kumasi.
The deposed traditional leader was reportedly found guilty on Monday after several people accused him of selling many lands to people and other damning charges.
The distraught Nana Antwi Agyei Brempong II was said to be sober, as he stood in the presence of the Asantehene, with his cloth reduced to his waist level.
Nana Agyei Brempong II was also accused of not adhering to the dictates of the Asantehene who owns all the stools and lands in the Ashanti Region and beyond.
The deposed chief was also found guilty of lying in the presence of the sacred Golden Stool, which has been the heart and soul of Asante Kingdom over the centuries.
The beleaguered chief was also found guilty of the wrongful use of the Great Oath of the Asantehene, a crime which is considered very serious in Asanteman.
Sources at the Manhyia Palace said Otumfuo Osei Tutu II stated that Nana Agyei Brempong II had committed a grievous crime against the sacred Golden Stool and Asanteman and should vacate the stool with immediate effect.
Addressing a conference at Atwima Techiman in the Ashanti region, the royals stated that though the decision by the Asantehene to dispose their chief is in the right direction they are seeking to plead with him to temper justice with mercy.
Nana Antwi Agyei Brempong II was destooled by Otumfuo Osei Tutu II on Monday 16, April 2018 for gross misconduct and insubordination.
