Removal of KNUST-Ejisu problematic roundabouts excite road users
Ghana News-Work is progressing on the removal of the 4 roundabouts from the Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology (KNUST) to Ejisu in the Ashanti region.
These roundabouts were always considered undesirable by road users especially because of the vehicular traffic congestion they caused.
Though they looked nice, the 2 lanes always narrowed into 1 just before the roundabout; a situation that did not auger well for traffic flow.
Several cargo trucks and tankers overturned in their attempts to manoeuvre the sharp roundabouts. These “fallen” trucks worsened the traffic congestion that already existed.
The government announced the removal of these undesirable roundabouts soon after taking power. Residents were however worried as no action was seen several months after the announcements.
rawgist.com’s visit to the site of the roundabouts reveal work is seriously ongoing and two of the roundabouts; the Buadi junction roundabout and the Oduom roundabout had been removed and workers were seriously working to level out and make it safe and worthy for use.
Assemblyman for Kentenkrono-Oduom-Nsenie electoral area; Thomas Acheampong was at the site when rawgist.com got there and expressed the hope that all 4 roundabouts would be removed and all work done within a maximum of three months.
He was satisfied with the pace of work and was convinced the traffic congestion will become a thing of the past as soon as the work is completed.
Though the ongoing project is causing further congestion, the road users rawgist.com spoke to were happy to brave the situation so they can enjoy a smoother ride in the near future.
