Main Events Ghana Launches Spelling B Competition For Basic Schools

Main Events Ghana, a marketing and events company on Friday launched one of the popular Spelling B Competitions in Ghana for Basic Schools in Kumasi.

Christened “Spellathon”, the spelling competition would this year be held in seven regions across the country. 

Speaking at the Ashanti Regional media launch, Aaron Lawson, Programs Coordinator for Spellathon said the competition is aimed at encouraging reading habits in the current and next generations. 

“We are determined to use this Spellathon competition to make impact in the educational sector of the country by encouraging students to read, study and develop themselves in language formation and learning”, the Programs Coordinator noted

Mr Lawson also mentioned that the winner of this year’s competition would receive a one year scholarship at their school.

The competition, he revealed has had massive participation from private schools across the country with some public schools also showing interest.

This year’s competition, he noted would have a four way format comprising of a zonal competition, super zonal, regional and a grand final at the national level.

The competition is opened to schools in the Bono, Ashanti,  Eastern, Western,  Central, Greater Accra and the Northern Regions.

Addressing the pupils and the organisers,  Nana Owusu Kutire Ampem, Edweneasehene commended Main Events Ghana for the Spellathon competition. 

He urged the organisers to add innovations and creative ideas into the spelling B competition.

Nana Ampem prayed that the competition grows to become a nationally acclaimed one.

“I thank the organisers for this initiative which is about the 5th time it would be going on and i pray the competition grows to become a nationally acclaimed one which would encourage learning and development in pupils across schools in Ghana “, the Chief stated.

Other Information:

Present at the launch were some pupils from the Praise Jah, Adventist Preparatory, Kay tee, Agape International, New Age School and Global Community Schools. 

Registration for schools in the Ashanti for the competition has commended.

Last year’s winner, Micaiah Gyampoh received a year’s scholarship from the Spellathon Organisers at the media launch.

There were awards for some girls who performed exceptionally well at last year’s competition.
