CETAG calls of mass 28-day annual leave

The National Council of the Colleges of Education Teachers Association of Ghana (CETAG), has rescinded on its decision to embark on a 28-day annual leave

A statement signed by President of CETAG Mr Prince Obeng Hima and copied to OTEC News, directed all members of the association to resume work on September 19,2022.

The decision to resume work, according to the statement, was met after the council agreed to heed to appeals from the Teacher Trainees Association of Ghana and the public, on them to return to lecture halls.

The statement further revealed that the leadership of Conference of Principals of Colleges of Education (PRINCOF) have resolve to compensate CETAG members for working all year long, hence their resolution to call off the leave.

“The leadership of the association has braodly consulted our legal team, considered the formal appeal by the leadership of Teacher Trainees Association of Ghana and that of the public, we have also seen PRINCOF’s move to compensate our tutors for engahing in all yezr long academic work”

We have equally considered the need to salvage academic calender from imminent distortion, as a result, we hereby direct memberd to end our 10-working day old leave hilterto, on Friday September 16, 2022, travel back to our respective campuses and resume work on monday”. The statement said.

Teachers in all the 46 public Colleges of Education who are members of CETAG on September 1, 2022, proceeded on a 28-day annual leave with an expected return on October 10.

CETAG indicates that the introduction of the new academic calendar, which requires that teachers work an entire year without break, coupled with lack of compensation from government  forced them to take such a decision.
