Boarding school system not breeding place for lesbians and other social vices – IFEST
A Senior Research Fellow at the Institute for Education Studies (IFEST), Dr Barnabas Addai Amanfo has shot down calls on government to scrap boarding school system because it is becoming the breeding places for lesbians and other social vices.
According to the renowned educationist, claims of female students engaging in lesbianism are not enough reason to eliminate the boarding system in Ghana’s educational structure.
Speaking to Captain Koda on the Kumasi based OTEC 102.9 FM’s morning show Nyansapo on Thursday, July 27, 2023, the Lecturer at Valley View University emphasized that, there are ways to deal with the issue of lesbianism on secondary schools but certainly not scraping the boarding system.
“It’s very true some students have shared their experiences of going into the act of lesbianism in boarding schools, but there are several others who did not go the boarding school yet practiced the act, so the real solution is not the boarding system “he said.
The educationist’s comment is in reference to a suggestion by the former rector of the Ghana Institute of Management and Public Administration (GIMPA), Professor Stephen Adei, that government must abolish the public-school boarding system.
Professor Addai described the system as a vehicle for children to pick up social vices including lesbianism.
Dr Barnabas Addai has however say he do not agree with the former rector over the scraping of the public boarding system.
He has therefore urged on country to rather discuss the issue extensively and find lasting solution to the problem.
