The bag of cocoa price has now moved from GHC800.00 per bag to GHC1, 308.00.
Nana Addo also announced that the cocoa season will begin in September, instead of pervious October.
The new price was announced at Tepa in the Ahafo Ano North district in the Ashanti region on Saturday, September 9, 2023.
Addressing cocoa farmers, President Nana Addo stated that the new pricing is meant to improve the livelihoods of the farmers.
The new price according to the president has also moved the price per tonne from GHC12, 800.00 to GHC20, 943.00.
“The new price is the highest in the sub region in the last 15 years,” Prez Nana Addo boasted.
He noted that the decision to increase the price gate was to sustain the cocoa industry which is the backbone of the country’s economy.
By this new price, it is expected that smuggling of cocoa across the borders of the country for higher pricing will be reduced.
