KMA begins Asafo market demolishing and redevelopment into modern market

The Chief Executive Officer for Kumasi Metropolitan Assembly KMA, Hon Samuel Pyne says demolition of the aged-old Kumasi Asafo Market is to pave way for the construction of a new one that conforms to the city’s planning agenda.

According to him, reconstruction of the market will provide modern facilities including police post, washrooms, a school, among others
Speaking to OTEC News on Tuesday April 9, 2024,the Kumasi Mayor said the facility upon completion will provide enough space for traders who would’ve otherwise stayed on pavements

The KMA on Tuesday begun demolishing the weak main storey-building of the Asafo Market
Prior to the demolition exercise, the Assembly relocated all tenants in the building to return and re-occupy their shops upon completion

Meanwhile Hon Samuel Pyne said the project is a Public Private Partnership which is geared towards enhancing KMA’s comprehensive strategic being undertaking by the Assembly to develop the city.
“Our focus is to modernize the market to create a serene and conducive trading environment for traders while providing adequate security at the same time “. He said.
