Kumasi: Cattle take over Asem cluster of schools; academic activities suspended

Academic work at the Asem Cluster of Schools in Kumasi was suspended on Monday, July 22, 2024, in the morning following the invasion of cattle on the premises.
The stray animals numbering about thirty prevented some teachers and pupils from entering their classrooms to start morning lessons.

The animals were found walking on the veranda and the compound while urinating and defecating, a scene that caused fear and panic among the schoolchildren.
A visit by Otec News at 7:30 in the morning saw the classroom doors and windows closed to prevent the animals from entering, while some pupils were standing far from the compound.
Some of the teachers who spoke to Otec News on condition of anonymity said the compound has served as a grazing field for the cattle for past years, and their complaints have yielded no results.
They stated that the situation always disrupts school activities, and places the teachers’ and the pupils’ lives at risk.
“For the fear of their children and wards lives, parents and guardians are withdrawing them from the school, gradually collapsing the school,” they further said.
The teachers then appealed to the city authorities to ensure that the animals were prevented from entering the compound for sound academic activities.
Some of the pupils speaking to Otec News expressed concern about the circumstances and dissatisfaction over constantly sweeping the animal feces and urine in the morning, which causes them discomfort.
