2024 EducationUSA College Fair held in KNUST
The 2024 EducationUSA College Fair has been held at the Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology (KNUST) in Kumasi, in the Ashanti region.
The second edition of the fair was attended by thousands of students from the region and was held on Thursday, September 12, 2024.
The maiden EducationUSA College Fair was held at the same venue, in collaboration with ACE Consult.
The free event brought together interested students aspiring to pursue higher education in the United States of America (USA).
The fair also brought more than 50 accredited universities and college representatives across the USA on board.
Participants in the fair were very excited and full of energy, and several expressed hope that they would be accepted into an American institution or university (US).
Public Diplomacy Counselor at the Embassy of the United States of America in Accra, Emily S. Fertik, in an interview with Otec News during the fair said US universities and colleges are eager to welcome Ghanaian students to further their education.
According to her, advisers from the EducationUSA council “assisted students in researching and identifying the colleges and degrees they wished to pursue, as well as in navigating the application and financial aid processes, including scholarship applications.”
Emily S. Fertik expects the number of Ghanaian students studying in the US to increase after the fairs in Kumasi, considering the amount of interest shown by the participants.
“Currently, Ghana is ranked 23rd in the world for the number of students studying in the US, and for the graduate-level students, Ghana is ranked 14th. Over the last academic year, almost 6,500 Ghanaians are studying in the US right now, a 30% increase from the previous year, and we expect the number to increase after the fair,” she noted.
A Yaa Asantewaa Girls SHS student, Charlestina Valeria, speaking to Otec News, said the fair has enlightened her on the program that will assist her in pursuing her academic dreams in the USA.
Another male student from Prempeh College who wants to pursue a degree in journalism pointed out that interacting with the university representatives has helped him to identify the college and the process involved in admission applications.
