Oti region: Man, 26, kills mother with pestle in Krachi East

Yaw Nimoah, a 26-year-old farmer in the Oti region’s Yabram suburb of Dambai, used a pestle to murder his 60-year-old mother, Serwa Ama Salomey.

The Kwame-Akura East Electoral Area assemblyman, Philip Kwadwo Bidaba, told Asaase News that the suspect had threatened to kill her mother with a cutlass on multiple occasions.

“The threat by the suspect against his mother became a concern to all members within the community and he even threatened a resident with cutlass, which led to his arrest but was later discharged.” Bidaba said.

He reported that when he and the other members of his unit committee arrived at the scene, they discovered the deceased in a pool of blood.

“In a swift attempt, I quickly called the police command and reported the incident; the police arrived promptly and arrested the suspect.”

The body of the deceased was later conveyed to the Worawora government hospital mortuary for preservation.

According to sources, the suspect has been taken to prayer camp multiple times and is experiencing a mental health issue.

Currently at the police custody as police launched an investigation into what led to the incident.

Meanwhile, the deceased was buried at Dambai, where the family resides.
