Kumasi Mayor wages war against cattle owners

The Mayor of Kumasi, Hon. Richard Ofori Agyeman, has warned livestock owners within the metropolis not to allow their livestock to move astray, effective May 1, 2025.

As part of the assembly’s plans to decongest the city, he warned that any animal found in the city would be captured and fed to the prison inmates.

He explained that these animals cause public health threats such as diseases, accidents, and soil on the streets from their droppings, and they graze on lawns.

Hon Richard Ofori Agyeman, who was overwhelmingly confirmed on April 10 by the assembly after his nomination by President John Mahama, gave the warning during his maiden media engagement on Monday.

“From May 1, 2025, any stray animal found within the jurisdiction of KMA will be arrested and sent to the prison yards as their meals. So I implore all livestock owners to keep their animals in barns and stables,” he warned.

During the media engagement, Hon. Richard Ofori Agyeman also outlined some measures to decongest the city, including banning trading on road medians.

“KMA will not allow anyone to sell on road medians after the Easter celebrations. The assembly will arrest and prosecute any person who flouts the warning, and their wares will be confiscated as well,” he stated.

“All the above-mentioned measures are geared towards making the city clean, which has been engulfed with filth. Very soon, comprehensive measures will be announced by the assembly on the decongestion exercise in the city,” he added.
