Frimpong-Manso Institute calls for swift investigation and action over Ablekuma North election re-run violence

The Frimpong-Manso Institute (FMI) has condemned the violence that marred the Ablekuma North election re-run, calling for a swift investigation and stringent application of the law against perpetrators.
In a statement, on Thursday July 17, 2025, the Institute noted that the electoral violence leaves an indelible stain on Ghana’s democracy and warned that failure to act could lead to worse scenarios in future elections.
The FMI has urged the Intelligence Community and Law Enforcement Agencies to work together to prevent violence in future elections, particularly in the upcoming Akwatia by-election.
The Institute also emphasized the need for vigorous public education on relevant laws and the consequences of violating them.
The FMI has called on the ruling National Democratic Congress (NDC) and the opposition New Patriotic Party (NPP) to impress upon their supporters to respect the law and refrain from turning voting centers into battlegrounds.
The Institute warned that the law should deal ruthlessly with any offenders, regardless of their party affiliations or political connections.
The FMI’s statement highlights the need for Ghana to take concrete steps to prevent electoral violence and ensure peaceful elections. The Institute’s call for action comes amid growing concerns about the country’s ability to maintain peace and stability during elections.
