The Ghana Tertiary Education Commission (Ghana Tertiary Education Commission) has cautioned the public against enrolling in or accepting qualifications from several unrecognised tertiary institutions operating in Ghana and abroad.
In a statement dated May 28, the Commission said the listed institutions have not received accreditation and therefore do not meet the required quality assurance standards to operate as recognised tertiary education providers in Ghana.
The Commission urged prospective students, parents, and employers to always verify the accreditation status of institutions before enrolling in programmes or accepting certificates.
“The Ghana Tertiary Education Commission (GTEC) wishes to inform the general public that the institutions listed below are currently not recognized by the Commission due to various quality assurance concerns,” the statement noted.
GTEC warned that certificates from such institutions may face challenges in recognition for further studies, employment, and professional advancement.
It added that the publication of the list is part of efforts to safeguard the integrity of Ghana’s tertiary education system and ensure compliance with approved academic standards.
The list reportedly includes about 70 institutions across Ghana and countries such as Nigeria, Liberia, the United Kingdom, the United States, India, and Switzerland. Among them are Universidad Azteca (Mexico), Atlantic International University (USA), Swiss Management Centre University (Switzerland), Texila American University (Guyana), as well as some theology and business schools operating without proper accreditation.
Locally, institutions such as Debest College of Science, Arts and Business, Faith University Seminary, and Kingdom Living Bible Institute were also named.
