KATH fixes broken down radiotherapy machine

The Okomfo Anokye Teaching Hospital (KATH) in the Ashanti Region has swiftly fixed its broken-down radiotherapy machine, just days after it developed a fault.

The machine, which serves thousands of patients in over 12 regions in Ghana, had been out of operation for about a month, hampering cancer treatment at the facility.

According to the Clinical Oncologist at KATH, Dr. Bawuah Asare Bonsu, the parts needed to fix the machine had been imported and had finally arrived adding that engineers were working on the machine
Speaking to OTEC News Reporter Jacob Agyenim Boateng on Thursday, April 24, 2025, Dr. Bonsu said the parts had finally arrived, and engineers were working on the machine.
He noted that the machine would soon be ready to serve cancer patients.
The Chief Executive Officer of KATH, Professor Okyere Addai Mensah, was present during the fixing of the machine.
Professor Mensah, known for his proactive leadership style, said the management of the facility had taken swift measures to fix the machine.
However, he acknowledged that importing parts had caused delays.
Professor Mensah assured the public of quality service, calling on partners and stakeholders to help make that dream possible.
The swift action taken by the hospital’s management has brought relief to cancer patients who rely on the facility for treatment.
