A/R: Poor Roads Devastate Farmers in Adansi South District, Tones of Food Rot in Farms

Farmers in the Adansi South District of the Ashanti Region are facing a dire situation as poor roads have led to massive food spoilage.

Despite cultivating large quantities of food, including maize, cassava, beans, yam, and cocoa beans, the deplorable state of the road network is preventing these crops from reaching the market.
According to the farmers, the district is one of the region’s food baskets, but the poor roads have hindered its ability to make a meaningful impact on the region’s food security.
Farmers from communities such as Damascus, Anomawobi, and Nsese expressed their concerns to OTEC News Reporter Kwame Agyenim Boateng on Tuesday, August 26, 2025.
“We cultivate hundreds of acres of land but end up miserable due to poor roads. Most of these foods are left in the bush to rot due to lack of access to roads,” one farmer lamented.
The farmers have been battling this problem for years, appealing to authorities for assistance, but to no avail.
The farmers have appealed to local authorities to at least grade the roads to enable them to transport their produce to the market.
They believe that with improved road infrastructure, they can significantly contribute to the country’s food security.
The situation highlights the urgent need for infrastructure development to support agricultural productivity and food security in the region.
