Asanko Mines concession dispute: Manso Aboabo residents flee as soldiers invade town after deadly clash; schools closed down

Dozens of residents and students have fled Manso Aboabo in the Amansie West District of the Ashanti Region after a clash between military officers and youth in the community.
The clash followed the death of Assembly Member Hon. Samuel Dankwa, who was shot dead by military men while trying to mediate a standoff between the youth and Asanko Mines.
The youth, still reeling from the Assembly Member’s death, launched a reprisal attack on the mining equipment, prompting a heavy military presence in the community.
A source from the community old OTEC News Reporter Kwame Agyenim Boateng that armed military men stormed the community, forcing residents to flee for their lives.
“Many have been forced to sought shelter in nearby communities, fearing for their safety”
“The situation is getting out of hand and so we are calling on authorities to intervene to avoid any further chaos”. The source said.
Meanwhile the Member of Parliament for Manso Nkwanta, Hon. Tweneneboah Kodua Forkuo, has called for the immediate withdrawal of the military from the area to allow for thorough investigations and restore peace.
The MP has petitioned Parliament and the Presidency to investigate the incident and bring justice to the bereaved families.
