Kwabre East:  NADMO Staff Found Dead in River Abira

A 60-year-old staff member of the National Disaster Management Organization (NADMO) at Mamponteng, Kwame Obeng, has been found dead in River Abena Feam at Abira in the Kwabre East Municipality of the Ashanti Region.

According to community members, his lifeless body was discovered on Wednesday morning, with the cause of death yet to be determined.

The Abira Chief Linguist, Nana Adu Adjei, revealed that the deceased was recovering from a stroke and had informed his wife of plans to visit a nearby community but failed to return home.

“A day before this sad news, he was in town and informed his wife of going to the next community, Krobo, but couldn’t return home in the evening,” Nana Adjei said.

The deceased was a married man with one daughter and a former Assembly Member for Abira.

“This incident marks the second time a body has been found in the river,” the chief stated.

Nana Adjei has urged the Abira community, especially the youth, to avoid visiting the river on Tuesdays, which is considered a sacred day.

The Antoa police have retrieved the body for autopsy.
