State funeral to be held for former First Lady Nana Konadu Agyeman-Rawlings on November 28

The Government of Ghana has announced that a state funeral will be held for the late former First Lady, Nana Konadu Agyeman-Rawlings, on Friday, 28 November 2025, at the Independence Square in Accra.

The announcement was made in a statement issued by the Presidency and signed by Felix Kwakye Ofosu, Spokesperson to the President and Minister for Government Communications.

According to the statement, the state funeral will be held under the auspices of President John Dramani Mahama in recognition of Nana Konadu’s invaluable contributions to national development and her lifelong advocacy for women’s and children’s rights in Ghana.

Nana Konadu Agyeman-Rawlings, who served as Ghana’s First Lady from 1981 to 2001, was a leading figure in the country’s women’s empowerment movement and the founder of the 31st December Women’s Movement. Her work focused on advancing gender equality, expanding educational opportunities, and improving healthcare for women and children.

The government said the funeral arrangements are part of efforts to honour her legacy and her role in shaping Ghana’s social and political landscape.

Further details on the funeral programme are expected to be released in the coming days.
