NPP should reward loyalty and sacrifice by endorsing Dr Bawumia – Abu Jinapor appeals to delegates

The Member of Parliament for the Damongo Constituency, Hon. John Abu Jinapor, has appealed to the New Patriotic Party (NPP) to reward the loyalty and sacrifices of Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia by endorsing him as the party’s flagbearer.

According to Hon. Jinapor, Dr. Bawumia has made immense personal and professional sacrifices for the growth and success of the NPP and therefore deserves the opportunity to lead the party into the 2028 general elections.

“This is a man who has given his all to the party, even at great personal cost,” he said.

Hon. Jinapor made the remarks on Monday while accompanying Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia, a flagbearer aspirant of the NPP, and members of his campaign team on an engagement tour with party delegates in the Bantama Constituency.

The interaction formed part of Dr. Bawumia’s ongoing consultations with delegates across the country.

The former Minister for Lands and Natural Resources described Dr. Bawumia as a loyal and committed party member who has consistently stood by the NPP over the years.

He noted that Dr. Bawumia’s political journey has been defined by service rather than personal gain.

Hon. Jinapor recalled that Dr. Bawumia could have pursued a highly successful international career, particularly during his tenure at the Bank of Ghana, but chose to resign and dedicate himself fully to the service of the party.

“That decision was not about comfort or prestige, but about loyalty and sacrifice,” he stated.

He further observed that no politician within the NPP has endured as much public criticism and vilification as Dr. Bawumia, yet he has remained steadfast, focused, and committed to the ideals of the party.

“Through it all, he has shown resilience and humility,” he added.

Addressing delegates in the Bantama Constituency, Hon. Jinapor urged them to critically assess Dr. Bawumia’s vision for the country, his humility, unity-driven leadership style, and commitment to national development.

He called on them to give Dr. Bawumia the nod as the NPP’s flagbearer, stressing that such a decision would be in the best interest of both the party and the nation.

The opposition New Patriotic Party (NPP) will on Saturday, January 31, 2026, will elect it’s presidential candidate for the 2028 general elections.

The contenders include former vice president Dr Mahamudu Bawumia, Dr Osei Yaw Adutwum, and Ing Kwabena Agyei Adjapong.

The others are Dr Bryan Acheampong and Hon Kennedy Ohene Agyapong.
