Asante Youth Association commends KATH Doctors, urges government to operationalise satellite hospitals

The Asante Youth Association (AYA) has praised doctors at the Komfo Anokye Teaching Hospital (KATH) for prioritising peace and uninterrupted healthcare delivery amid recent tensions over conditions in the health sector.

In a statement issued and signed by its General Secretary, Tweneboa Kodua, on Thursday, June 11, 2026, the association expressed profound gratitude to the medical doctors for responding positively to appeals from AYA, Manhyia, and other stakeholders by allowing calm to prevail in the interest of patients and the public.

According to AYA, the doctors demonstrated exceptional patriotism and professionalism at a time when concerns over healthcare services in the Ashanti Region were escalating.

“The doctors demonstrated patriotism, professionalism, and a deep commitment to the welfare of the people by allowing calm to prevail. Their decision reflects not only their dedication to the medical profession but also their unwavering concern for the thousands of patients who depend on KATH daily,” the statement said.

The association further commended the doctors for continuing to advocate for long-term solutions to the challenges confronting healthcare delivery in the region, even after the intervention of traditional authorities.

AYA noted that the doctors’ call for the operationalisation of several healthcare facilities across the Ashanti Region is both timely and necessary.

“We are particularly encouraged that even after the intervention of Manhyia, the doctors remained steadfast in advocating for a long-term solution to the challenges confronting healthcare delivery in the Ashanti Region. Their insistence on the operationalisation of the various satellite hospitals within the region is both commendable and necessary,” the statement added.

The youth group has therefore called on the government to fulfil its commitments by ensuring that major healthcare projects, including the Afari Military Hospital, Sewua Hospital, Kumawu Hospital, and other facilities, become fully operational to reduce the pressure on KATH.

“Now that calm has been restored, it is important that the government demonstrates the same level of commitment by ensuring that facilities such as Afari, Sewua, Kumawu, and other healthcare projects are fully operationalised to ease the enormous pressure on Komfo Anokye Teaching Hospital,” AYA stated.

The association reaffirmed its commitment to collaborating with healthcare professionals, particularly the Komfo Anokye Doctors Association (KADA), civil society organisations, traditional authorities, and other stakeholders to advocate for improved healthcare infrastructure and services.

AYA also reserved special praise for the Asantehene, Otumfuo Osei Tutu II, for his intervention during the period of uncertainty, describing his role as instrumental in restoring calm.

“Once again, Otumfuo has demonstrated exceptional leadership, wisdom, and statesmanship during a period of uncertainty. His intervention has reaffirmed what many have always known—that in moments of difficulty and division, Otumfuo remains a unifying force and a dependable source of guidance,” the statement noted.

The association further described the Asantehene as a national asset whose influence and commitment to peace continue to inspire confidence across Ghana and beyond.

“Indeed, Otumfuo is not only a treasure to Asante and Asanteman but to Ghana as a whole. His influence, wisdom, and commitment to peace continue to inspire confidence among people from all walks of life,” AYA said.

The group also wished the Asantehene well on his ongoing international engagements in Poland and Canada and announced plans to organise a grand welcome for him upon his return in recognition of his leadership and service to Asanteman and Ghana.

AYA concluded by urging all stakeholders to remain committed to peace and work collectively towards building a stronger healthcare system and a healthier nation.
