Landowners attacking kofi job workers with guns delaying Konongo Bypass – Roads Minister

The Minister of Roads and Highways, Governs Kwame Agbodza, has revealed that some landowners are attacking workers of Kofi Job Construction Company with guns on the Konongo bypass, a key project on the Accra-Kumasi Highway.
Speaking to journalists during a visit to ongoing road works in the Ashanti Region on Friday, the Minister said the attacks have significantly delayed work on the bypass.
He stated that security agencies have been engaged to address the situation and ensure the safety of workers on site.
According to Mr. Agbodza, government is also seeking the intervention of the Asantehene, Otumfuo Osei Tutu II, to help resolve the dispute.
“We are speaking to security to address the situation, and we are also looking forward to seek help from the Asantehene Otumfuo Osei Tutu II to help intervene,” he said.
“This is the same Kofi Job Constructions with huge capacity to develop the road. He’s ready to work, however the attacks are delaying the work.”
The Minister noted that all affected individuals have already been engaged and agreed on the right compensation packages.
He expressed concern that despite the agreements, some landowners are still holding on to the land and resorting to violence.
He appealed to the public to support the project, stressing that the completion of the Konongo bypass will ease congestion and improve travel for commuters on the busy Accra-Kumasi Highway.
He assured that all those who attacked the workers will be dealt with according to the laws of the country.
