Light for the Aged fetes vulnerable in Sekyere South District
Light for the Aged, a Non-Governmental Organization has launched a project dubbed “African Mothers and Fathers Day in Ghana” in the Ashanti Region aimed at reducing poverty among the aged by providing financial support to the aged in rural communities in the Region.
Launched at Bepoase in the Sekyere South District of Ashanti Region on Sunday January 2,2022 the NGO distributed food items and a number of T-shirts to over 100 elderly and the needy running into hundreds of thousands of Ghana Cedis.
Speaking to OTEC News the founder of Light For the Aged, a US-Ghanaian Nana Opoku said the rationale by NGO ,was to accord equal status to the celebration of Mother’s and Father’s day in the African concept.
“In Africa, mothers are prominently featured more than fathers during the ceremony, hence we are introducing this project to provide equal opportunity for both aged fathers and mothers” .
Led by Nana Adonten Boateng, Africa’s representative of the NGO, and Wiamoase/Bepoase “Asenie” Chief, the group visited about ten poverty-stricken communities where some needy persons aged between 50-years and 122-years benefitted from the items.
Nana Adonten in his address to the media assured that the NGO will continue to support the beneficiaries in areas affecting their living standards.
