Police officer accused to have aided in Adum Afrancho murder interdicted; one charged with murder

The Ghana Police Service has interdicted an officer alleged to have aided the murder of a bar operator during a chieftaincy dispute at Adum Afrancho in the Atwima Kwanwoma District of the Ashanti region.
Chief Inspector, Emmanuel Opoku Addai of the Kokoben Police Station together with four others who were arrested in connection with the violence on Sunday were today granted bail by an Asokwa district court in Kumasi.
The four accused persons were granted GHC30,000 bail each with a surety whilst one was remanded into police custody.
A suspect, Akwasi Brefo, who has been charged with murder is presently on admission at the Dominase Hospital under police guard.
In the early hours of Sunday, July 3, 2022, 38-year-old, Bright Appiah was stabbed to death over a protracted chieftaincy and land dispute.
Residents accusation
Some residents of Adum Afrancho in the Atwima Kwanwoma District of the Ashanti Region have alleged that, the knife used in the murder of 23 year old Kwame Yeboah belonged to a police officer.
The residents who claimed to be fisrt hand witnesses to the murder incident accused one Chief Inspector Akwasi Antwi of Ahenema Kokoben Police Station of providing the knife to the suspect Kwame Brefo, who happens to be his brother.
“I run to the scene after i heard my mother crying for help, only to discover that the suspect had stabbed two people with the knife provided by his brother”.One witness name withheld narrated the story to OTEC News Kwame Agyenim Boateng.
“We separated those involved in the fight but later saw that the knife used to commit the alleged murder was in the amour vest of the police officer who tried to hide it from the public”.
“We forcefully took the knife from him to keep as evidence but the investigation team from the Ashanti Regional Police Command came for it during their preliminary investigations”.
One woman who is said to be the first to raised alarm over the alleged murder said Chief Inspector Kwasi Antwi took no action when his brother moved to stabb his victims.
“The police officer failed to intervene when even when i had begged him to stop his brother from killing the victim”
“He rather encouraged his brother to cause more harm to the deceased after residents moved in to separate them”.she added.
Background
23-year-old bar operator Kwame Yeboah was stabbed to death in a suspected chieftaincy dispute.
The incident happened in the early hours of Sunday, July 3 at Adum Afrancho in the Atwima Kwanwoma District of the Ashanti Region.
The town is currently, under heavy police patrol.
The chieftaincy dispute has gripped the small community with a population of less than one thousand.
Meanwhile the Ashanti Regional Police Command on Sunday July 3, 2022 said they have arrested six persons in the Ashanti Region following a land and chieftaincy dispute that led to the death of one person at Adum Afrancho near Atwima Kwanwoma.
The suspects according to a statement by the police were arrested on Sunday July 3.
