EPA is ill-informed – Exton Cubic
Exton Cubic Group Ltd, the company embroiled in the Nyinahini Bauxite mining controversy has hit back at the Environmental Protection Agency accusing the state institution of acting on wrong information.
“The statement issued by the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) was inaccurate and a willful breach of natural justice”, spokesperson for the Group, insisted.
According to Sammy Gyamfi, “the statement from the EPA was riddled with hearsays and flawed in substance”.
He stated when reacting to claims made by the Agency the Exton Cubic Group Limited has not obtained the required permit to mine at Nyinahi in the Atwima Mponua District of the Ashanti Region its mining.
“It is sad and unfortunate that the EPA will come to the media with this statement before they meet or write to us”, emotional Sammy Gyamfi fumed on an Accra based radio station.
The Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) has said it has not granted permission to Exton Cubic Group to undertake bauxite mining activities at Nyinahini in the Atwima Mponua District of the Ashanti Region.
The Agency says any attempts by the company to enter the area to mine bauxite, is illegal.
Some irate youth believed to be organized by the District Chief Executive of Atwima Mponua on Monday prevented Engineers & Planners – affiliated to Exton Cubic – from depositing mining equipment at the Nyinahini bauxite concession in the Tano Offin reserve.
The EPA in a statement on Wednesday clarifying the matter has said that “…Exton Cubic Group Limited has not obtained the required EPA permit under its mining lease and therefore, any attempt to enter the area for mining activity is illegal.”
