June 3 disasters anniversary held; survivors call for more support

It’s exactly three years since the devastating flood and gas explosion happened at the Kwame Nkrumah Circle, shaking the nation by claiming over 200 live and leaving many with injuries.

In commemoration of the day at the Word Power Pentecostal Ministry at Alajo in Accra, some survivors and some relatives of the over 150 people who lost their lives in the rain and fire explosion incident met to thank God for life.

Although grateful to God, the survivors are call for support as they say life after the incident has been difficult.

Those who suffered several injuries on that fateful day in an interview on Adom News said they are yet to be fully compensated.

A Senior High School (SHS) student who was a victim said the June 3 incident has been a nightmare since she still gets flashbacks of the incident.

“The incident has affected my grades in school; whenever its about to rain, I have flashbacks of the incident and its vert scary” she bemoaned.

Some of the survivors who struggle to fend for themselves and their families have had to live with their scars and deformities three years on.

They are therefore appealing to government to support them financial to enable them seek proper medical care and counselling.

Meanwhile, Assembly man for Odorna Sahara Electoral area, Hendick Kena called on the Accra Metropolitan Assembly (AMA) to disburse the allocated funds for the affected victims.
