Coronavirus Lockdown: Government presents food items to feed the poor in Ashanti Region

The Government of Ghana as a palliative measure necessitated by the partial lockdown in some parts of Ghana due to COVID-19, on Wednesday, April 8, 2020, commenced the distribution of food and other essential commodities to the poor in the Ashanti region.

The food items which was presented by the Ashanti Regional Minister Hon Simon Osei Mensah to the Council of Local Churches in the Ashanti region is to be shared among vulnerable individuals within the affected areas.

Presenting the items, Hon Simon Osei Mensah said the aim is to support the vulnerable who have been greatly affected by the lockdown measure.

He explained that , the government could’ve used Metropolitan, Municipal, District Chief Executives and Assembly members  in the distribution process but its now using churches to avoid politicizing the project.

He emphasized that the Ashanti Regional Coordinating Coincil will ensure the transparent distribution of the Food.

The presentation which was monitored by OTEC News Kwame Agyrnim Boateng was six articulated tracks which was full of rice, sardines, gari , sugar , oil, tin tomatoes among others

He called on the public to adhere to the lockdown measure to help contain the spread of the virus.

The food items were handed over to faith-based organizations and the various MMDCEs and DCEs to spearhead the distribution.

The Head of Council of Local Churches in the Ashanti Region Most Reverend Proffesor Yinka Sarfo receiving the items thanked the president for the kind gesture.

He assured the government of fair distribution of the wares in the affected areas.
