The embattled Ghana Football Association (GFA) President, Kwesi Nyantakyi, who is been chased by the Criminal Investigation Department (CID) of the Ghana Police Service, for allegedly using the name of the President for certain purposes, has apologized to President Nana Akufo Addo.
In statement written by the GFA boss on his Facebook wall on Wednesday, May 23, 2018, he expressed his deepest regrets and apologized and described his actions as unprofessional.
Nana Akufo-Addo ordered the Criminal Investigations Department (CID) of the Ghana Police Service to arrest the GFA boss after being privy to investigative journalist Anas Aremeyaw Anas’ Number 12 undercover documentary, which exposed the GFA president as using the name of the president for certain purposes.
Kwesi Nyantakyi was caught on camera engaging in influence peddling in the name of President Akufo-Addo and according to the Deputy Chief of Staff, Samuel Abu Jinapor, Kwasi Nyantakyi did not only used the President’s name in defrauding football investors but also other key government officials.
In his statement, the GFA boss added that “While I cannot alter what has transpired, I have taken steps to ensure that similar incidents and misunderstandings will not occur in the future”.
“I value our professional relationship and firmly believe that our teamwork will continue to produce solid work that will benefit the GFA and Ghana as a whole,” he concluded.
