Fathers’ Day: ANAQ Foundation organizes free medical screening for men

ANAQ Foundation in collaboration with Peace and Love Hospitals (PLH) and Breast Care International (BCI), as part of activities marking the Fathers’ Day, organized a free medical screening for men at the Kumasi Cultural Centre on Sunday, June 17, 2018.

The program which was attended by all walks of men, both fathers and potential fathers, were educated by medical experts who took them through how to detect and control diseases like prostate cancer, diabetes, hypertension among others.

The participants were offered the chance to ask health bothering questions and answers were provided by the medical experts, after they have been given sermons on the role of fathers in the society by revered ministers.

The President and Founder of ANAQ Foundation, Mrs. Ama Nyarko Attafuah Quainoo, speaking in an interview with Otec news’ Francis Appiah after the program said the event was held in recognition of the roles fathers play in the up keeping of children at homes, which have been far neglected by the society, as compared to the hype given to Mothers’ day celebration.

“We are not giving the fathers the recognition as expected as compared to Mothers’ day celebration, so Anaq Foundation thought it prudent to give fathers the needed recognition by organizing this event for them. We have given them health bits on diabetes, cancers, hypertension, prostrate among others, and we are also doing free medical screening for them, kind courtesy, Peace and love Hospital, as our sincere appreciation to them,” she said.

“I will plead with the fathers to be responsibly to receive favours from their children and God, even if they don’t have money to cater for them (children). Children are properties of fathers and must be taken good care of, they shouldn’t be like ‘lizards’ which lay eggs and never attended to them, one you have them to the world, it’s your task to look after them,” she said.

The CEO of Peace and Love Hospitals, Dr. Mrs. Beatrice Wiafe Addai, who was a resource person on the program, advised men to reduce alcohol consumption to save money to take of their family and to avoid diseases like diabetes, hypertension and prostate cancer that are associated with alcohol consumption.
