The General Secretary of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) Johnson Asiedu Nketia has said he would have jubilated if the Electoral Commission had disqualified the NPP presidential candidate in their electoral pruning exercise.

According to him, Akufo-Addo is the NDC’s main contender in the upcoming polls and his disqualification would have come to the party as good news.

The EC on Monday announced the disqualification of 12 candidates including Dr. Nduom, Dr. Hassan Ayariga of APC, Nana Konadu Agyeman Rawlings of the NDP, Dr. Edward Mahama of the PNC, Dr. Henry Lartey of the GCPP for failing to meet the nomination requirement for the Presidential contest.

Nomination form anomalies and many others were cited for their individual disqualification.

Many of the affected candidates have threatened to sue the EC over the move.

Speaking on Okay FM about the EC’s disqualification of 13 aspirants, Mr Asiedu Nketiah said,“I believe the EC has done what they deemed right under circumstances and so we need to accept it as political parties ; I would have been sad if the President Mahama and NDC had been disqualified but then I would have be happy if they had taken Akufo-Addo out. Since he is our main opponent in this election”,he lamented.
