The free exercise was held on Friday, August 17, 2024, and was conducted by Breast Care International (BCI), Peace and Love Hospital, with support from Delta Airlines.
Before the screening exercise, the participants were educated on the causes and prevention of breast cancer, and the need to regularly visit the hospitals for checkups.
The participants were also introduced to Breast-Self Examination (BSE), a way of looking for changes and problems in the breast tissue, and advised to consult a medical practitioner when found one.
Nana Ama Kyifa II, in her speech urged the people to visit the hospitals when they detect anything unusual in and around the breasts.
“Breast cancer as we have been told is curable, treatable and preventable. It’s not as fearful as we used to believe. So don’t be disheartened if you are diagnosed with cancer,” she advised.
“The disease is not caused by witchcraft so don’t rely on traditional medicine in treating breast cancer, seek medical attention early for prompt action to be taken,” Otumfuo Adontenhemaa added.
She concluded her speech by expressing her appreciation to the participants for the successful exercise, and appealed to BCI to make it an annual event.
