The CEO of Ghana COCOBOD Mr Joseph Boahen Aidoo has hinted of an increased in producer price in cocoa beans for the 2024/2025 cocoa season.
The farm gate price of a 64kg bag of cocoa beans is currently pegged at GHC33,120, after it was reviewed in April 2024 from GHC2,070.
The new farm gate price is expected to be announced by President Nana Akuffo Addo on Tuesday, September 10, 2024.
Cocoa prices are determined by the Producer Price Review Committee, a body charged with the responsibility of determining new cocoa price for a crop season.
The body submits the new price to the Ministry of Food and Agriculture, who then forwards it to the President for an official announcement.
Mr Joseph Boahen Aidoo gave the hint during a meeting with chief cocoa farmers from the 70 cocoa districts across the country in Kumasi on Friday, September 6, 2024.
“The new farm gate price of 64kg of cocoa beans will be announced by President Nana Akuffo Addo on September Tuesday 10, 2024,” he stated.
“The good news is that the price will be better than the current price but I cannot say it here until it’s official announcement by the president,” Mr Boahen Aidoo happily said.
The announcement by the COCOBOD brought a thunderous applause from the farmers who were gathered at the GNAT hall in Kumasi.
Speaking to Otec News after the engagement, the farmers expressed their delight at the announcement of the new date.
“I pray the new price is pegged at not less than GHC4,000, as a reward to our hard labour, and for not selling our cocoa lands to illegal miners,” a farmer told Otec News.
