Interior Minister nominee Muntaka Mubarak promises to tackle small arms proliferation
Hon. Muntaka Mubarak, Member of Parliament for the Asawasi constituency and current Interior Minister nominee, has vowed to address the issue of small arms proliferation in Ghana.
During his vetting process at the Ghanaian parliament, Muntaka emphasized the need to strengthen border control and improve detection methods to prevent the smuggling of arms into the country.
Muntaka, who has been a member of parliament since 2005, highlighted the challenges faced by the Commission on Small Arms and Light Weapons, which currently relies on manual searches.
He expressed gratitude to the German government for providing equipment that can detect guns in vehicles and pledged to acquire more advanced gadgets to facilitate efficient detection.
The nominee also stressed the importance of empowering the Peace Council to maintain national peace and stability.
