Perennial Flooding: Gov’t, World Bank to construct major drains in Ashanti Region – Minister

The Government of Ghana, in collaboration with the World Bank, has embarked on feasibility studies in flood-prone areas of the Ashanti Region to mitigate the menace of flooding.

According to the Minister for Works and Housing, Hon Kenneth Gilbert Adjei the first phase of the studies has been completed, with reports expected soon.

The Minister, Hon Kenneth Gilbert Adjei, noted that this initiative is part of the government’s efforts to address flood challenges in cities across the country.

He assured that the government, together with the World Bank, will provide adequate measures to curb flooding, including the provision of necessary infrastructure.

Hon Adjei revealed that the government has already secured funding for drainage projects nationwide.

He made these remarks during a Validation Workshop in the Ashanti Region, on Wednesday August 20, 2025, attended by the World Bank and other stakeholders.
The Minister praised President Mahama’s commitment to addressing flooding in the country.
For his part, the World Bank Representative, Santiago Arias, reaffirmed the organization’s commitment to supporting the government in this endeavor.
He urged the country to remain resolute in its quest to halt perennial flooding.
