Invest in TVET to tackle youth unemployment, Chief urges stakeholders at USTED Conference

Development Chief of Nyankyerenease, Apostle Dr. Nana Gyamfi Kumanin Kese, has called for urgent investment in Technical and Vocational Education and Training, TVET, saying it is the surest path to reducing youth unemployment and driving Ghana’s economic growth.

Speaking at the maiden International Conference on Education and Humanities at USTED on Wednesday, the chief argued that TVET remains under-prioritized despite its direct link to job creation and national development.

“TVET has not received the attention it deserves. Yet it is very important for economic growth and development,” Apostle Dr. Kumanin Kese stated.

“We must invest in practical skills to reduce unemployment.”

He said traditional authorities have a unique advantage because of their influence in communities, and that power must be used to change perceptions about technical education.

“Traditional leaders play a vital role in Ghana’s education. They have power in promoting sustainable development. They can make major impact in TVET,” he said, urging government, educators and industry players to collaborate.

“Stakeholders must team up to provide quality TVET for young people.”
