Ebony mum appeals to road contractors to speed up works to avoid another disaster
Madam Beatrice Oppong, the mother of the late Ghanaian dancehall queen, Ebony Reigns, has appealed to the government, head of institutions and road contractors, as a matter of urgency, to speed up works on roads they are working on to avoid another disaster that will claim lives.
She said the accident that occurred at Nyame Bekyere, a village near Mankraso in the Ahafo North district in the Ashanti region that claimed his daughter’s and three others lives could have been avoided if works on the road were done quickly by the contractor, instead of putting heaps of sand on the road.
Madam Oppong said this on Tuesday, February 13, 2018, when she visited the scene of the accident, together with the Ashanti Regional Minister Hon. Simon Osei Mensah and the Ashanti Regional Police Commander COP Ken Yeboah, to access the cause of the accident.
Priscilla Oppong Kwarteng, known as Ebony Reigns, lost her life in a gory accident together with other three persons, when their car had a collision with a bus on the Kumasi-Sunyani road on Friday, February 8, 2018.
Speaking in an interview with Otec News’ reporter Ebenezer Owusu Ansah at the scene, Madam Oppong sorrowfully said “I appealed to the government, head of institutions and the road contractors across the country to do their works with due diligence to avoid unnecessary accidents that claim lives on our roads. If the contractor on this road (the spot of the accident) has sped up work, my daughter might not have died.”
The Ashanti Regional Minister Hon. Simon Osei Mensah told the reporter they were at the scene purposely to get first-hand information on the circumstances that led to the death of Ebony to assist them in their investigation.
“We have heard some many stories in the media concerning the death of Ebony and three others at this spot. Some people are saying the accident was caused by the negligence of the road contractor working here, so we are here to access the situation ourselves to help in our investigation,” he said.
“We will do whatever we can to address the situation here. A lot of lives have been lost on this road because of its sharp curve and we cannot sit down on concern,” he added.
Ebony Reigns will be remembered with her songs like ‘Poison’, ‘Hustler’, ‘Sponsor’ and ‘Maame Hw3’ among others.
