Zongo Killings: Soldiers to provide security at burials

The Zongo Committee that probed the death of seven suspected armed robbers who were shot and killed by the police at Manso Nkwanta in the Amansie West District of the Ashanti Region, has asked for military presence as the community prepares to bury the remaining six of the deceased.

The committee wrote to Ashanti Regional Minister, Simon Osei-Mensah, for security at Asawase where the burial will take place.

Secretary to the committee, Alhaji Musah Shariff, told the media at a press conference on Tuesday, 4 September 2018 that four of the deceased who are Muslims, will be buried at the Tafo Cemetery on Thursday, 6 September 2018 after the last prayer or ‘Janaiza’ has been held at the Kumasi Central Mosque.

They are Musah Seidu, a.k.a. Baban Kande; Mohammed Bashir Musah, a.k.a. Soja; Mohammed Kamal, a.k.a. Tanko; and Baa Bont, a.k.a. Freeboy.

He said the other two deceased Razack Sule, a.k.a. Frenchman; and Oliver Konlan, a.k.a. Raster; who are Christians, will also be buried at the same cemetery on Saturday, 8 September 2018, after Christian prayers have been held for them.

Alhaji Musah said the final ‘Adua’ for all the deceased will be held at the Kumasi Central Mosque on Sunday, 9 September 2018.

One of the seven, Hannan Abdul Bashir, has already been buried.

Alhaji Musah said the committee of inquiry set up by the government to investigate the shooting of the seven, has been informed, and is pleased with the decision and the burial arrangement.
