Asokwa Municipal Assembly Disburses Items and Cheques To 39 PWDs

The Asokwa Municipal Assembly on Monday disbursed cheques and start-up items valued at GhC 130, 000 to support persons with disabilities (PWDs).
The disbursement forms part of the District Assemblies Disabilities Common Fund.
39 persons were selected to benefit form today’s allocations including items for sewing, hair dressing, welding, carpentry, shoe making and plantain chips making and cold store business.
Some of the beneficiaries received cash amounts to support the payment medical as well as educational bills.

Speaking at an official ceremony to present the items, Chief Akwannuasah Gyimah, Asokwa Municipal Chief Executive (MCE) said the periodic disbursement to PWDs showed the commitment of the NPP government to their welfare and wellbeing.
The Asokwa Assembly together with the Member of Parliament was engaging in this statutory disbursement exercise for the 13th time, the MCE disclosed.
Chief Akwannuasah therefore asked the beneficiaries to put the items into good use so that government would be encouraged to continue with the programme.
“It is instructive to note that as a Municipality we do our best to provide support and training for PWDs we find in the Municipality and we are determined to keep our streets clean from beggars and PWDs”, the MCE stated.
Director of Social Welfare:
Mr Dickson Frimpong, Asokwa Municipal Assembly Director for Social Welfare and Community Development commended the MCE and the Assembly for always responding to the needs of PWDs.
He also praised the Assembly for sustaining the disbursement of the PWD common fund for the 13th time.
Mr Frimpong tasked the beneficiaries to put into good use the items they were receiving as start-ups for businesses they’ve trained in.
“How well you do in life depends in the choices you make in life and i believe that if all the 39 beneficiaries put into good use the support they’ve received they would help to make life bearing for themselves and their families”, the Director stated.
Beneficiaries:
Madam Genevieve Asare, a beneficiary of the cash support thanked the Asokwa Social Welfare Department for the allocation.
“I am very grateful to the NPP government and Mama Pat for showing kindness to some of us and i am hopeful that these funds would help to cater for the health needs of my sick child”, Madam Genevieve stated.
Daniel Opoku, a shoe maker thanked the Asokwa Municipal Assembly for the items they have purchased for him to undertake his trade.
“These start up items would enable me to operate at full strength since i now have all the tools to carry out my work”, Mr Opoku posited.
