The Tema Oil Refinery (TOR) has taken delivery of approximately one million barrels of Bonga crude oil aboard the MT Cap Felix as part of ongoing efforts to revitalise its operations.
In a statement dated May 27, 2026, the refinery confirmed that the shipment, purchased from Shell, was supplied through its tolling partner, Fujeirah/Triangle Commodities Trading (TCT), under an arrangement designed to support operational recovery and ensure a steady supply of petroleum products to the Ghanaian market.
According to TOR, the arrival of the crude marks a significant milestone in its efforts to restore consistent refining activity, strengthen national energy security, and reduce Ghana’s dependence on imported refined petroleum products.
The Bonga crude, known for its low-sulphur content and favourable refining yields, is expected to be processed into key petroleum products including liquefied petroleum gas (LPG), petrol, diesel, kerosene, aviation turbine kerosene (ATK), and fuel oil for both domestic and regional markets.
Management of the refinery expressed appreciation to the Government of Ghana, regulatory institutions, financial partners, and other stakeholders for their continued support towards TOR’s operational turnaround.
They reaffirmed the refinery’s commitment to transparency, operational efficiency, environmental responsibility, and its long-term ambition of becoming a competitive and commercially sustainable energy hub in Ghana and the West African sub-region.
TOR further indicated that it will continue to engage stakeholders and provide updates as refining activities progress.
