“Stem indiscipline by working with party’s constitution” – COKA tells constituency chairmen

Odeneho Kwaku Appiah, widely known as “COKA,” the newly elected Ashanti Regional Chairman of the ruling New Patriotic Party (NPP), has urged constituency executives across the region to strictly adhere to the party’s constitution in all administrative and political activities.

Addressing constituency chairmen during a strategic meeting in Kumasi, Chairman Appiah emphasized that unwavering adherence to constitutional guidelines is essential for eliminating indiscipline, preventing public embarrassment, and building a more cohesive party structure ahead of future national elections.

Background
The call comes at a crucial moment for the NPP in the Ashanti Region, traditionally considered the political stronghold and bedrock of the party.

Following recent internal constituency and regional executive elections, leadership has prioritized grassroots reconciliation, structural discipline, and organizational efficiency.

By framing the party’s constitution as the ultimate guiding document, regional leadership aims to streamline local governance and prevent internal friction between elected officers.

Constitutional Compliance:
Strict adherence to party laws shields leadership from operational pitfalls and public controversy.

Eradicating Indiscipline:
Enforcing constitutional standards serves as a direct remedy for past administrative lapses and factional misconduct.

Mandates:
Constituency chairmen must respect the division of labor and allow co-executives to fulfill their constitutional duties without interference or intimidation.

Leadership:
Highlighting the necessity of institutional order, Chairman Appiah cautioned that neglecting constitutional protocols undermines the party’s integrity.

“I urge all of us to become sticklers for our party’s constitution and rely on it to administer our respective offices. By doing so, we will effectively root out the indisciplinary tendencies that previously characterized party operations,” Chairman Appiah stated.

He further noted that the NPP constitution clearly defines the specific roles, duties, and powers assigned to each executive officer.

He cautioned constituency chairmen against centralizing power or usurping the responsibilities of other elected officers, advocating instead for a collaborative approach.

“Allow those elected alongside you as constituency executives to perform their duties freely, without intimidation or unwarranted interference. Together, we can restore total discipline to our party,” he added.

Grassroots Support:
Responding on behalf of the constituency leaders, Mr. Kwaku Oppong, Chairman for the Manhyia North Constituency, expressed gratitude to the Regional Chairman for initiating the consultative meeting.

He affirmed the commitment of local leadership to align with the regional vision, emphasizing that strengthening the party’s grassroots foundation is an immediate priority.

“We are thankful for this opportunity to meet with our newly elected Regional Chairman and engage with his vision. We are particularly encouraged by his commitment to constitutional governance, and we assure him that this standard will be emulated across all constituencies,” Mr. Oppong remarked.
