Bolt organizes road safety summit for its drivers in Kumasi

Bolt, a leading ride-hailing platform, has organized a road safety summit for its drivers in Kumasi, the Ashanti region, to educate them on safe driving practices and defensive driving techniques.

The summit, which took place on Monday, December 16, 2024, aims to promote safe driving practices and enhance safety measures for both drivers and passengers.

It was also to provide a platform to discuss safety innovations, share experiences, and strengthen Bolt’s commitment to create and enhance a secure ride-hailing experience.

The workshop was attended by Bolt drivers from the Kumasi metropolis and representatives from the Drivers, Vehicle and Licensing Authority (DVLA), and Motor Transport and Traffic Directorate (MTTD).

The drivers were taken through a comprehensive training program, which included presentations, videos, and interactive sessions.

The workshop also provided an opportunity for drivers to share their experiences and concerns and to receive feedback and support from Bolt’s safety team.

Speaking at the summit, Senior Operations Manager of Bolt Ghana, Henry Whyte, emphasized the importance of safety in the ride-hailing industry.

“This workshop is part of our efforts to ensure that our drivers are equipped with the knowledge and skills necessary to provide safe and reliable rides,” he said.

Henry Whyte also spoke about some challenges facing Bolt drivers in Kumasi and solutions adapted to avert the situation.

The Ashanti Regional Director of the Driver and Vehicle Licensing Authority (DVLA), Amos Abakah, urged digital transport operators to abide by the rules and regulations that govern them.

Among them include the registration with the DVLA to be certified as such and obtain a Digital Transport System Operator ID, which is nontransferable, he mentioned.

“Drivers who want to operate in the digital space would have their driver’s license certified and validated by the DVLA, must possess a valid driver’s license, and should undergo a background check and provide proof of identity,” Mr Abakah added.
