A/R: GNFS records three major attacks on fire personnel in first quarter of 2025

The Ghana National Fire Service (GNFS) has revealed that the Ashanti Region recorded three major attacks on their stations in the first quarter of 2025.

Fire tenders and officers from the Konongo, Ejisu, and Mamponteng commands were attacked while responding to fire incidents.

The attackers claimed that the firefighters delayed in responding to calls to quench the fires.

According to the GNFS, the attacks have led to dozens of fire officers recording different degrees of injuries, with some of their properties being destroyed in the process.

The Ashanti Regional Fire Commander, ACFO II Peter Tetteh, disclosed that most of the attackers who claimed to have called the fire service did not know the numbers they had called.

He said this when the Ghana National Fire Service marked this year’s International Firefighters Day with a grand durbar at their headquarters in the Ashanti Region.

“In trying to understand the attackers, we mostly engage them, but the problem is they don’t have the number they aimed to have called on our offices,” ACFO II Tetteh explained.

“The truth is our officers respond to emergencies with all seriousness because we know that each fire incident has human lives and properties at stake.”

The Fire Commander, however, noted that the lack of adequate fire tenders sometimes makes it difficult for them to attend to emergency situations in real-time.

He added that fire tenders sometimes cover 40 kilometers just to quench a fire due to the lack of tenders in some districts.

ACFO II Tetteh urged the public to halt the attacks and instead collaborate with them to save lives and properties.
