“We want him physically” – OSP rejects Ofori-Atta’s virtual session request

The Office of the Special Prosecutor (OSP) has rejected a request by former Finance Minister Ken Ofori-Atta to appear virtually for interrogation, insisting on his physical presence despite medical complications cited by his legal team.
Ofori-Atta was expected to appear before the OSP on Monday, June 2, but failed to do so due to a reported deterioration in his health. Sources close to the former minister confirmed that his legal team has submitted medical documentation to both the OSP and the Human Rights Court, indicating that he is scheduled for surgical procedures and is currently unfit for an in-person engagement.
Addressing the public on Monday, June 2, Special Prosecutor Kissi Agyebeng stated that the office is unwilling to allow a virtual appearance despite requests from Mr. Ofori-Atta’s legal team, citing health complications.
“This office has always requested his attendance, and we have indicated clearly to him that we are unwilling to waive it. If we were amenable to taking any statement from Ken Ofori-Atta in absentia, we would have done so in February, and not waited till June 2, 2025.
“We want him here physically, and we insist on it. A suspect in a criminal investigation does not pick and choose how the investigative body conducts its investigations and the methods suitable to him and his convenience. We will not countenance this conduct, not in this case.”
Despite the medical reports submitted by his legal team, the Special Prosecutor appears adamant, signalling that no compromise will be made in the investigative process.
Following this, the OSP again declared former Finance Minister Ken Ofori-Atta a wanted person after he failed to appear in person before the office as directed.
