Manso Nkwanta: Cocoa farmers threaten curse over delays in payments

Some cocoa farmers at Kwakokrom in the Manso Nkwanta Constituency of the Amansie West District has issued a strong warning to the Chief Executive Officer of the Ghana Cocoa Board, Randy Abbey, over delayed payments for cocoa beans.
The farmers, who spoke during a visit by the Minority in Parliament, alleged that their produce hav been purchased for over six months without payment.
Expressing deep frustration, one of the farmers warned that if the outstanding money is not paid within one month, he will resort to invoking traditional curses against the COCOBOD CEO.
“I am a cocoa farmer, i already have my dry gin, if government fails to pay the money I will invoke the powers of our gods on them”. He said.
The remarks were made when a Minority delegation, led by the Minority Chief Whip, Frank Annoh-Dompreh, and the Deputy Minority Leader, Patricia Appiagyei, visited farmers in the area to engage them on concerns over cocoa pricing and delayed payments on Wednesday.
“The prolonged delay has caused significant hardship, affecting our ability to cater for our family and meet essential needs”
The Minority delegation assured the farmers that their grievances would be presented in Parliament, pledging continued advocacy to ensure that cocoa farmers receive timely payment and fair pricing for their produce.
The situation highlights growing tension among cocoa farmers in parts of the Ashanti Region, as many continue to demand urgent action from authorities to address their concerns.
