Pentecost Day: Frimpong-Manso Institute urges Christians to uphold values of Holy Spirit

The Frimpong-Manso Institute has called on Christians to reflect deeply on the true meaning of Pentecost and allow the Holy Spirit to guide their lives, churches, and contributions to society.

In a Pentecost Day message issued on May 23, 2026, President of the Institute, Rev. Prof. Paul Frimpong-Manso, said the Day of Pentecost remains significant to the New Testament Church because it marked the outpouring of the Holy Spirit upon the followers of Jesus Christ.

According to him, Pentecost was originally one of the three major Jewish harvest feasts alongside Passover and the Feast of Tabernacles, but for Christians, the occasion symbolizes the fulfillment of God’s promise through the gift of the Holy Spirit.

“The Holy Spirit descent on that Day was Christ Jesus’ postcard to the disciples who saw him ascend into the clouds that, indeed, he had arrived and been glorified,” he stated.

Rev. Prof. Frimpong-Manso explained that the outpouring of the Holy Spirit fulfilled biblical prophecies and promises made by Prophet Joel, John the Baptist, and Jesus Christ himself.

He noted that unlike in the Old Testament where the Holy Spirit was reserved for kings, priests, and prophets, the New Testament ushered in a “democratic outpouring” of the Spirit upon all believers through Christ Jesus.

“In this promise, God was going to pour out His spirit without discrimination upon His people,” he emphasized.

The statement further indicated that Pentecost inaugurated the age of the Church and established believers as “the new covenant people of God.”

Rev. Prof. Frimpong-Manso stressed that the Holy Spirit was given to empower Christians to fulfill the Great Commission through the proclamation of the Gospel.

“The proclamation of the Gospel will not be effective without the presence and power of the Holy Spirit,” he said.

He added that the Holy Spirit equips believers with supernatural courage, spiritual gifts, and moral strength to influence society positively through righteousness, peace, truth, justice, discipline, innovation, and excellence.

The FMI President also lamented what he described as the growing celebration of ungodliness, secularization, relativism, and the erosion of morality in modern society.

“In a generation where ungodliness is celebrated as an alternative modern lifestyle, absolute truths and morality have been replaced by relativism and individualism,” he noted.

He, however, encouraged Christians not to rely on their own strength but on the power of the Holy Spirit to live exemplary lives marked by love, peace, joy, faith, self-control, and meekness.

Quoting Galatians 5:25, he urged believers to “walk in the Spirit” as they celebrate Pentecost.
