Police gears up for action in jailbreak aftermath – IGP

The Inspector General of Police, (IGP), David Asante Apeatu says the jailbreak will not break their resolve in any way towards protecting the citizenry.

He said he and his men are upping their game towards guaranteeing the safety and security of the populace.

Kwabenya police station was on at dawn, Sunday, January 21, attacked by armed men who freed colleague robbers in custody at the cells killing one Police inspector in the process.

However, the IGP speaking to radio Ghana after meeting the Parliamentary Committee on Defence and interior in parliament assured Ghanaians of their safety.

Meanwhile, the Interior Minister, Ambrose Dery says government has not lost control when it comes to security.

Speaking to journalists after a crunch meeting with the Defence and Interior Committee of parliament he said, what government seeks to do now is to ensure zero fatalities within the force in the line of duty.

He says clamping down on crime is a gradual process.

Mr. Dery said government has unflinching faith in the work of the Inspector General of Police, David Asante-Apeatu and his men in combating crime

In a separate development, the first deputy speaker of parliament Joseph Osei Owusu has given the ad hoc committee looking into the presidential cash for seat saga a weeks’ extension of their work.

This follows an application by majority leader Osei Kyei-Mensah-Bonsu on behalf of the committee.

The committee was due to submit its report tomorrow/today but it said they were not yet done with their work.
