Police arrest two suspects for robbery at Adumasa market

Police in the Ashanti Region have arrested two suspects in connection with an armed robbery incident that occurred on Monday night, October 20, 2025, at the Adumasa market.

An assault rifle and live ammunition were retrieved at the scene.
Confirming the incident, the District Police Commander, Superintendent Teddy Brown, said officers received a distress call around 7:30 p.m. from a resident in Bomfa, reporting an ongoing robbery at Adumasa. A team led by Supt. Brown and ASP L. J. Kanton, together with the Konongo Divisional Taskforce, Formed Police Unit (FPU), and District Patrol Team, quickly moved to the area.

Preliminary investigations revealed that three armed men stormed the market on a motorbike, wielding firearms, including an M47M16A2E assault rifle. The suspects reportedly targeted Ebenezer Boampong Adubofour, a 35-year-old gold merchant, demanding he hand over his gold and cash.
During the attack, the robbers fired several shots indiscriminately, injuring six people. They escaped with an unspecified amount of gold and money. Some residents of Adumasa pursued them, forcing the assailants to abandon their assault rifle, four live rounds of ammunition, and a motorbike, which was later found burnt.
Although the robbers initially managed to flee, police efforts led to the arrest of two suspects, while the third remains at large.
The injured victims were taken to the SDA Hospital in Nobewam and the Konongo Government Hospital, where they are receiving treatment and are in stable condition.
Police say investigations are ongoing to apprehend the remaining suspect and bring all perpetrators to justice.
