CDD-Ghana holds regional workshop on local government reforms in Kumasi

The Ghana Center for Democratic Development has organized a Regional Stakeholders Workshop on Local Government Reforms at St Cyprian’s Anglican Cathedral in Kumasi.

The workshop formed part of efforts to strengthen Ghana’s local governance system.

The programme, which aimed at sharing findings from a report on resetting Ghana’s local governance system for enhanced effectiveness, brought together key stakeholders including Presiding Members, Municipal and District Administrators, Unit Committee Members, and other relevant actors within the local government structure.

Speaking at the event on Wednesday, April 22, 2026, Monitoring and Evaluation Specialist Peter Annor Mensah indicated that many Municipal and District Assemblies are underperforming based on findings from their research.

He explained that the initiative is also intended to provide support, logistics, and recommendations to ensure effective decentralization without political interference.

Some participants expressed appreciation to CDD-Ghana for organizing the workshop, noting that it had enhanced their understanding of local governance challenges and provided practical insights to improve their work within the assemblies.
