KMA vows strict enforcement of sanitation laws at Kumasi CBD

The Mayor of the Kumasi Metropolitan Assembly(KMA), Richard Ofori-Agyemang Boadi, has pledged to ensure strict enforcement of sanitation laws across the metropolis following weeks of targeted interventions.

The move comes after an earlier media engagement announcing a ban on poor sanitation practices within Kumasi’s Central Business District and other parts of the metropolis.

Speaking to Citi News on Wednesday, April 22, during a monitoring tour to assess compliance with the directives, Mr Agyemang-Boadi said there has been a visible improvement in recent weeks.

During the visit, some traders were seen cleaning their trading spaces in compliance with the Assembly’s sanitation directives.

The Mayor stated that the heaps of refuse have reduced, adding that most of the measures introduced are yielding results.

However, the mayor lamented the continued presence of hawkers on pavements.

He added that although it is not appropriate to sell on the pavements, the Assembly is managing the situation as efforts are underway to provide the traders with permanent trading spaces.

The Mayor further instructed traders selling slippers and shoes to vacate the entrance of Kejetia market and the Kumadi Zoo area.

He disclosed that the assembly will arrest individuals who fail to comply with the directives of selling shoes and slippers in these areas.
